Greetings!!
As the leaf-vacuum-truck passed our house earlier this week I was reminded of the upcoming monster job of raking, Even with a couple of teenagers, it will still take us a good part of the day. For now we keep postponing it as all eyes are focused on Batavia football in my household, and eventhough raking is an intense rotational movement of the spine which is an important range of motion to uphold, it is not the exercise of choice to stay fit for most people I know.
As we are are inclined to favor one side, just as with sports like golf, tennis or pitching, a slight spiraling imbalance in the body is enforced and can cause discomfort that may show up anywhere in the body, like the neck, around the hip or in the knees.
Was this caused by the repetitive motion or did you aggrevate an issue that has been there all along and it was just a matter of time or choice of activity that brought this to the surface?
Working out, exercising and staying active are all within the realm of ‘just keep moving’ and as a general strategy allows us to remain functional as our lifestyle demands. But often we wonder if running, that exercise class, walking the dog or home routine is going to last forever and is actually providing the benefits to our body as our mind wants us to believe.
So let’s lower the bar and once every few years have your posture assessed just as you take time to discuss your hairdo, fit a dress for that upcoming wedding or review tons of car makes and models to find the one that suits you best.
Staying on track and reviewing your exercise routine is like reviewing your investment portfolio or eating habits – if you look at it every day, it is difficult to stay emotionally detached and you will keep trying different things until none of them turn out to be successful. Get some expert advice, put all preconceived notions aside, listen and evaluate recommendations, make a choice and then stick to it for a while to let it sink in.
We can’t help you make good investment choices or promise you will lose weight, but we can make excellent recommendations when it comes to posture and movement.
Give us a call. Schedule that appointment. Keep learning, keep moving.
Happy fall,
